Soundscapes WaveWeaver

is a symmetrically built QRD-7 diffuser

(1 period = 7 full segments)

The two deepest segments

are folded.

.New: WaveWeaver Black is a black diffuser made from mass-coloured MDF. No more need for painting! Details below.

the classical QRD-7 (above)
contains a lot of "useless space";
WaveWeaver (below)
elegantly solves this....

What is ???

In order to offer excellent diffusers for a neat price SoundScapeS designed the WaveWeaver.
WaveWeaver is a series of constructively simplified QRD-diffusers, in a way surpassing the parameters of the classical QRD-design!

The classical QRD-7, top left, contains 4 hollow and useless spaces, grey colored in the drawing and adding to the total panel depth.
Therefore in a classical design the maximum segment depth -- defining the lowest frequency at which homogenous diffusion is still possible -- corresponds to the total panel depth (minus the thickness of the backplate).

WaveWeaver, shown below the classical design, is exactly the same QRD-7 without the useless spaces. The number of separate parts can be reduced when compared to the classical design; the amount of labour for assembly of the panel is smaller and the same panel can be built with something like 30% less MDF-wood.

Both panels have identical diffusion ranges, because they have identical maximum segment depth and an identical frontal surface.

The simplification of WaveWeaver versus a classical QRD-diffuser is visually represented in an animation.

WaveWeaver models

WaveWeaver currently consists of 5 different models.

Panel
depth runs from 7cm for model HighRange to a little over 16cm for model-3.

Panel
width varies from 20cm for model HighRange to more than 51cm for WaveWeaver-3.

Standaard panel
height is either 62 or 122cm. All panels can be custom-made at every height up to 122cm.

Panels are
made of untreated MDF, with the exception of model WaveWeaver Black, which is made of mass-coloured black (dark grey) MDF. All panels are fully glued and screwed together. A diffuser should be as rigid as possible.
Feel free to hand- or spray-paint these diffusers in any color of your choice. It will not affect the way they work. On the contrary: a hard finish will slightly improve the diffusive qualities!

Details, specifications and typical apllication of the panels can be found below.

Panel-prices depend on the number of panels to be ordered, as well as on the panel-height.

WaveWeaver model HighRange

single QRD N=7

Specifications:

  • practical diffusion range:
    ± 850 Hz -- 10 kHz
  • panel depth: 7 cm
  • panel width: 20,2 cm
  • panel height: 62 cm / 122 cm
  • weight: 3 kg / 5 kg
  • frontal surface: 0,1242 m2 / 0,2454 m2
  • Pricelist WaveWeaver

Application:
This diffuser is best applied on surfaces where the lowest possible panel weight combines with a wide diffusive range, i.e. with ceiling treatments. Because of its small depth this diffuser does not diffuser the lower midrange. This is counteracted by the fact that this panel's working range runs well into the higher regions of the audio-spectrum. The weight is very modest, even for small wooden diffuserpanels.
This panel can also be applied strategically throughout the room in order to tackle the flutter-echo phenomenon in a non-obstructive and non-absorbtive way.

WaveWeaver model-1

single QRD N=7

Specifications:

  • practical diffusion range:
    ± 500 Hz -- 7 kHz
  • panel depth: 9,8 cm
  • panel width: 32 cm
  • panel height: 62 cm / 122 cm
  • weight: 5 kg / 10 kg
  • frontal surface: 0,1968 m2 / 0,3888 m2
  • Pricelist WaveWeaver

    Application:
Application of this true allround diffuser is foreseen on all locations where low panelweight should be combined with practical treatment of the tonally most important frequency-range. Very well suited for treatment of first-reflection regions. The weight also allows for ceiling-treatment.
This panel is also the proven best choice to treat the wall behind a dipolar loudspeaker system, which is the most important surface that enables the spatial presentation for which this type of loudspeaker has become legendary. This diffuser starts working halfway in the lower-mid region and actually treats the complete range above, where fundamental tones are found (up to 4kHz). It even works well above that boundary into the higher mid region.

WaveWeaver model-2

single QRD N=7

Specifications:

  • practical diffusion range:
    ± 375 Hz -- 5 kHz
  • panel depth: 13 cm
  • panel width: 40 cm
  • panel height: 62 cm / 122 cm
  • weight: 9,2 kg / 15,2 kg
  • frontal surface: 0,246 m2 / 0,486 m2
  • info: WaveWeaver-2 has specs that are directly comparable to RPG's commercial QRD-734 panel.

Application:
Another excellent allround-diffuser, though weight can sometimes become an issue with this model. The diffusive range runs fully parallel with the tonally most important range for musical reproduction. Application is successfully possible on all locations and surfaces where strategic diffusion is beneficial (1st-reflection regions) and it will, as a side-effect, eliminate flutter-echo. Compared to Model-1 and HighRange, the panel weight is now an aspect to reckon with, especially when these panels have to be applied to the ceiling.
This model is not always the best choice for treatment of the wall behind a dipolar loudspeaker. In case of doubt, Model-1 is definitely the better choice for such an important surface.

WaveWeaver model-3

single QRD N=7

Specifications:

  • practical diffusion range:
    ± 300 Hz -- 3,5 kHz
  • panel depth: 16,4 cm
  • panel width: 51,4 cm
  • panel height: 62 cm / 122 cm
  • weight: 13 kg / 21,5 kg
  • frontal surface: 0,3235 m2 / 0,6391 m2
  • Pricelist WaveWeaver

    Application:
The larger panel width allows for easy treatment of any significant surface, without severely limiting the diffusive range at the higher end of the spectrum. Model-4, described below, actually restricts this higher end in favour of true low-end diffusion. This Model-3 offers the best of both worlds. Usually not suited for application behind dipolar speakers.
Very well-suited for application on the wall behind a
dynamic loudspeaker system or for treatment of the wall behind the listener, if sufficient distance from that back wall can be respected. Applicable in Home-theatre environments, for treating larger surfaces.

NEW: WaveWeaver Black model-1

single QRD N=7

Specifications:

  • practical diffusion range:
    ± 450 Hz -- 6 kHz
  • panel depth: 12,5 cm
  • panel width: 37,2 cm
  • panel height: 62 cm / 122 cm
  • weight: 8 kg / 13 kg
  • frontal surface: 0,2306 m2 / 0,4538 m2
  • Pricelist WaveWeaver

    Application:
Application of this allround diffuser is foreseen on locations where low panelweight should be combined with practical treatment of the tonally most important frequency-range.
The panel is made of black MDF and needs no extra finish when applied in home cinema surroundings. It will reflect less than 5% light.
